I’m Not Lazy, I’m Energy Efficient: Mastering the Art of Selective Productivity

Let’s get something straight: I am not lazy.
I am energy efficient.
Like a hybrid car with emotional mileage and unpredictable battery life.
Some days I’m a productivity goddess. Other days, I whisper “absolutely not” to every obligation and proceed to scroll Facebook under a blanket.

And you know what? Balance.

Hustle Culture? Couldn’t Be Me.

I used to feel bad about not doing all the things all the time.
But then I realized — hustle culture was built for people who confuse burnout with success. And that ain’t me, boo.

I don’t want to “rise and grind.” I want to “wake and vibe.”
My dream routine includes slow mornings, creative bursts, snack breaks, a little chaos, and ideally, someone else folding the laundry.

I’m not against productivity. I just believe in targeted effort.
I give 110%… to the three things I actually care about.
The rest? Bare minimum with a side of flair.

Mood Swings Meet Master Plans

Now listen — as someone living with mental illness, I know a thing or two about energy surges… and dramatic plunges.
One minute I’m writing a novel, launching a brand, and planning world domination.
The next? I’m horizontal, existential, and deeply committed to scrolling memes for three hours.

So I’ve learned to ride the wave.
I don’t waste the highs — I create, move, and build empires.
And when the lows hit?
I hibernate, hydrate, and emotionally spiral with intention.

This is what I call selective productivity:
Doing what needs to be done, when you’ve actually got the internal battery for it. And if the battery’s dead? Baby, it’s charging time. Don’t rush the process.

Coffee Is My Co-Pilot

Let’s be honest — my productivity has a co-author, and her name is Caffeine.
Specifically, coffee, preferably over ice.

Coffee gives me just enough motivation to:

  • Write one paragraph
  • Answer a text I’ve been ignoring since Tuesday
  • Stare out the window thinking about how time isn’t real

It’s not a fix. It’s a vibe.
And in this house, vibes matter.

How I Manage My Energy Without Managing to Fall Apart

Here’s my hot take guide to staying afloat while being selectively productive:

Prioritize rest like it’s your job – Because burnout gets you nowhere fast. And naps are free therapy.

To-Do lists, but make them realistic – “Drink water” and “Open email” count. Let’s normalize achievable goals.

Celebrate small wins like you won an Oscar – Got out of bed before noon? Queen behavior.

Curate your mood – Music, candles, lighting. Sometimes you just need to make your workspace feel like a moody French café with strong opinions.

Spoon theory is real – If you’ve only got 3 spoons today, don’t try to run a marathon. Use them for what matters, then retreat in peace.

Final Thoughts From the Couch

Selective productivity is not laziness. It’s survival.
It’s strategy.
It’s how creative, sensitive, mental-health-managing queens like us get things done without losing our damn minds.

So if today you did one task, drank some water, and didn’t scream at anyone — I’m proud of you.
If you did nothing at all except survive in your softness? I’m still proud.

You’re not lazy.
You’re efficient.
You’re a vibe.
And honestly? That’s more than enough.
