Back Home, Finally (and Barely Functioning)
Well, we made it back home this morning — hallelujah and pass the coffee! The trip was actually great. We had the best time visiting everyone, running all over creation, and trying to pretend we weren’t exhausted. Jimmy’s memorial was beautiful, and I swear he was right there with us the whole time. I even got his flannel — you know, the one he wore every single time we saw him. Yep, that one. It smells like him and comfort all wrapped into one, and I absolutely love it.
Thursday night was one of my favorite parts of the trip. We had dinner at our go-to Mexican spot, and I pulled off a little surprise with Aunt Debby’s help — we celebrated Uncle Tom’s 70th birthday early since we won’t be there this week for the real thing. The look on his face was priceless! While we were at it, we also celebrated Michael’s mom, Granny Rhonda, as we lovingly call her, because her birthday is coming up on the 14th. All of our kiddos were there, the grandbaby, my mama… it was a full table and a full heart. Margaritas, chips, laughter — you name it, we had it.
Thankfully, the drive back was uneventful — no “Florida Man” stories to report this time, though give us a few days, you never know. Now that we’re home, real life came crashing in like a toddler with a juice box: I’ve got bloodwork to get done, prescriptions to pick up for Carson, and about a million things to unpack. Oh, and I’ve been up since 8 a.m. yesterday, so if you need me later, I’ll be horizontal, drooling on my pillow, pretending I don’t hear the dryer beep.
The boys were supposed to go back to school today, but after an all-night drive, I declared it a “family recovery day.” (Call it self-care, call it survival — either way, it’s happening.) They’ll head back tomorrow, and I’ll finally try to find my sanity somewhere between a load of laundry and a nap.
Oh, and plot twist — we had the dates wrong for Harmony and the family’s visit. Turns out it’s next week! So instead of panicking, we’re chilling this week, cleaning up, and getting everything ready before the chaos (and cuddles) begin.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to drink something caffeinated and pretend I have my life together.
P.S. While I’m napping off this road-trip hangover, go check out my Etsy shop. Y’all know I can’t rest for long — there’s always something “simply adorable” waiting over there!
✨ Until next time — bless it and buy it, baby!
