Happy Hump Day

We found out yesterday that we’ve finally been approved to volunteer at Quincy’s school—and might I just say—it’s about dang time! Even better, we get to tag along with his class (maybe the whole third grade?) to the Tampa Zoo this Friday. I’m so excited I can hardly stand it.

I’ve always loved the zoo. Growing up, Mama never missed a year of taking us to the Louisville Zoo. It didn’t matter how old I got—I went with her every single year up until about ten years ago. Since then, she’s carried on the tradition by taking my kiddos instead. We’d spend the whole day wandering around, soaking up the sunshine, and always—always—stop at White Castle on the way home. Those are some of my favorite memories.

When we were younger, it was a whole family affair— aunts, uncles, cousins, even Nannie and Papaw would come along. Eventually, it got to be too much walking for them, but those days together are the ones that really stick with me.

Now that I’m taking photos more seriously, I can’t wait to bring my camera along this Friday. If my memory’s right, the last time we visited this zoo was back in 2015—Carrley and Carson were with us. It was that same week their dad was officially sent to prison, and we wanted to tell them in person before they heard it anywhere else. What better place than the zoo in Florida, am I right? I’m like 95% sure it was the Tampa Zoo, but who knows? There was obviously a lot going on at that time.

So, here we are, ten years later, packing sunscreen and snacks again, ready to make some new memories with Quincy. Something tells me this trip’s going to be special—just like the ones Mama made for me.

Until next time
