Inflamed But Still Smiling

Hey y’all—

Tuesday was a big day for me. I had my EGD done (for those of you not fluent in medical acronyms, that’s the scope-down-the-throat test), and it showed that both my esophagus and stomach are inflamed. The crazy part? I don’t feel it. No pain, no reflux, nothing. All those symptoms vanished after my gallbladder was removed, so this was a total surprise.

My GI did take some biopsies to hopefully get some answers. Since my mama is a carrier of H. pylori, he said the biopsy will let us know if it’s something “in my genes”—or as he joked at the time, “in my scrubs!” Gotta love a doc with a little humor.

I go back on August 12th to find out what those biopsies say. Fingers crossed for something helpful.

Next Tuesday (the 5th), I head back to my rheumatologist… and to be honest, I already know she’ll probably still not have answers. It’s so frustrating when your body’s screaming that something’s wrong, but most of the tests come back “normal.” It starts to make you feel a little crazy—like, am I imagining this? But I know I’m not. So I keep pushing for answers.

In other news… Florida is supposed to be good for me. And it will be, but only if I start treating my body better. I’ve let my eating habits slide, and I’ve gained back a lot of the weight I worked so hard to lose. I’m back up to almost 140 lbs again. SMH. Not cool, not cool at all.

So here’s to resetting. To finding answers. To healing from the inside out. And to loving ourselves even when we’re inflamed, confused, and bloated.

Stay well, friends. And eat a salad for me today, would ya?
