Spring Break: The Great Escape (Or So We Hope)
Alright, folks, enough of the sad posts—let’s shake things up a bit! It’s time for some excitement, some adventure, some… SPRING BREAK! What does that mean for us? Two glorious weeks in our new home, in our new community, basking in the Floridian lifestyle. (Or at least attempting to.)
But first, the journey. Ah yes, the infamous road trip. In theory, it’s a breezy 12.5-hour drive, but let’s be honest—when you factor in kids, bathroom breaks, snack raids, and the gravitational pull of Buc-ee’s, we’re looking at a solid 14 to 15-hour trek. And guess who’s behind the wheel for most of it? Yours truly!
It’s funny to think back on our early road trips when I was too scared to drive the unfamiliar roads and drivers, and Michael had to take the wheel. (Poor guy. He’s not exactly a long-haul driver, which meant extra stops, extra breaks, and, well, extra hours on the road.) Over time, I embraced my inner night owl/road warrior. We drive through the night because, let’s face it, kids sleep, traffic is minimal, and Georgia doesn’t have the chance to trap us in an 8.5-hour purgatory of brake lights and regret. (Lesson learned, Georgia. Lesson learned.)
Once we arrive, the plan is simple: get more of our stuff moved, set up the house, and explore. The beach? Obviously. State parks? Highly likely. And then there’s our new community, which, I have to say, is kind of a dream. We’ve got a gated neighborhood with a community clubhouse featuring a pool, waterslides, and a splash pad. Free fun, zero effort? Count me in!
I’m thinking of doing some research on local attractions and putting together a little “must-try” list. Maybe even some reviews along the way? Stay tuned for my very official, highly unscientific ranking of Florida’s best spots for family fun and possibly the best ice cream within a 10-mile radius. (Priorities, people.)
But for now, sleep is calling my name. The past two nights have been rough, and if I don’t get some rest, I may start hallucinating road signs that talk back. Not ideal for a long drive ahead.
So, goodnight, internet! Next stop: Florida! (Well, after about a million pit stops and some creative backseat negotiations with the kids.)
